8 July 2011

My fellow reenactors,

The end of the July is not that far away. I hope that you will be spending the last weekend of the month in Long Beach at El Dorado Regional Park East. We have every reason to believe that this will be our best event there yet.

The reenactor release is now posted on the web site. Likewise, a flyer is available there, The reenactor schedule is posted on the site, as well.

Note that there will be the "ever popular" reenactor swap meet at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lots of good, useable items were sold there last year, and we can expect that same again this year.

Horsemen, let me know you will be attending so that adequate hay will be available for your mounts.

Now here is where you really need to pay attention. As those of you know who have participated in prior events,  physical security is tight at this park. Reenactors should enter through the back gate at the Long Beach Town Center . This gate will be open for only limited periods. If you are concerned about it, note that you will not be trapped in the park because you can exit the park 24 hours a day at the Wardlow Road exit, but you cannot enter there.

For the gate behind the Long Beach Town Center , here are the hours it will be open:

12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday
7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday
4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday
7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday
4:00 p.m. to ? on Sunday (at whatever time it closes, you can simply exit through at Wardlow Road or at the front gate that closes at 8:00 p.m.)

So on to Long Beach now. Join your fellow reenactors at a really great event!

13 June 2011

My fellow reenactors,

Do you already have July 30-31 circled on your calendar? Please keep the weekend free for the second largest reenactment in Southern California at El Dorado Regional Park East in Long Beach!

As was mentioned in an earlier message, the event has been added to the Long Beach Sea Festival. We're hoping that the higher profile and increased public relations benefits will result in much greater public attendance this year.

Again, as reenactors, you can expect:

--A large crowd of appreciative spectators.
--A nice turnout on sutler row..
--Convenient reenactor parking.
--An excellent battlefield, particularly for
 cavalry.
--Comfortable, grassy, shaded bivouac areas.

You may arrive after 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Hay and firewood will be provided. Horsemen, I will need to know the number of mounts needing hay.

Ginger Alberti will be calling the dance again on Saturday night.

You will need to enter the park at the gate on the north side through the Long Beach Town Centre. If you enter from Spring Street, you will be required to pay park admission just as everyone does! Exit the 605 Freeway at Carson Street and work your way to the site after you enter the Long Beach Town Centre property.

As is customary, the camps will be reversed this year, with the Confederate Army of the West being nearer to the sutler/dance/concession area.

As usual,  the Reenactor Swap Meet will take place on Saturday morning around the bandstand.

Minors who will be participating without a parent present need to download the waiver/release to be signed by a parent before they leave home.  The release will be posted soon.

Each artillery unit will be required to have a small fire extinguisher hidden on the field near its cannons. A single powder magazine for artillery powder will be established at a place well removed from the camps. Each unit will be required to assist with security for that powder.

Sutlers, please contact me to confirm your attendance and to request space if you haven't already done so.

The registration fee will be $5.00. (And despite what you have been told about this event in some quarters, reenactors are covered by insurance paid for by the sponsor.)

A letter of appreciation from Visions In Time Foundation that you may use for tax purposes will be available to any attendee who requests one after the event.

You can expect another update before the event takes place.

As usual, thanks to Dick and Condit Wixon of Visions in Time Foundation for providing such a great event for Southern California reenactors.

On behalf of the Richmond Howitzer Battalion, your reenactor host unit, I invite you to Long Beach on July 30-31  I certainly hope that you will join us for a great time.
